testing
Before you are selected as a surrogate you will be required to
submit to a series of tests in order to determine if you are
qualified. These tests include a psychological exam, genetic
testing, a blood test, and HIV test. The intended parents will want
to know as much about your psychological and genetic background as
possible. They want to be sure that you will be able to carry a
child to term. This can be time consuming, requiring several trips
to the doctor.
doctor visits
Surrogacy requires many trips to the doctor’s
office. How many trips you will have to make will be determined by
what kind of surrogacy process you will under go. You can read more
about the medical process by visiting a link from our links page.
You are required to visit the doctor as requested, and fulfill all
medical obligations. This could be very time consuming. You will
have to work the frequent office trips into your schedule. If there
is not a proper clinic in your area, you may have to travel. You
should expect a hospital stay for the delivery.
pain, suffering and
discomfort
The surrogacy process is not pain-free. In most
cases, there will be injections, and embryo transfer procedure, and
later, delivery. There is always the possibility of a cesarean
section and a hospital stay. You will have to follow all doctors’
instructions during this time. You may not be able to drink, smoke
or exercise during the pregnancy. Understanding what is required of
you is important before entering into the process. A thorough
contract will help you to understand your rights and
responsibilities. |
